Sidney Health Center is pleased to welcome Michael D. Calfee, MD, to its orthopedic team. Dr. Calfee will begin seeing patients at Sidney Health Center on October 1, 2026.
Dr. Calfee is a board-certified orthopedic surgeon and sports medicine specialist with more than 26 years of experience providing orthopedic care. His areas of specialty include total hip, knee and shoulder replacement, sports medicine with advanced arthroscopic techniques, and hand surgery, with particular experience treating carpal tunnel syndrome. He is also very familiar with caring for older adults with orthopedic injuries and geriatric trauma.
“We are excited to have Dr. Calfee joining our Orthopedic Care team,” said Jennifer Doty, Sidney Health Center CEO. “He brings a wealth of experience, but just as important, he brings a genuine desire to help people. His addition will help us build a strong orthopedic program so our patients can access the care they need close to home.”
Dr. Calfee spent much of his career practicing in Tennessee, where he founded Advanced Orthopaedics and Sports Medicine. He also served as owner and managing partner of Union City Surgery Center from 2017 to 2025.
Dr. Calfee’s interest in medicine began with a desire to pursue a career where he could make a difference in people's lives.
“My grandfather lost his right hand when he was 18, and he was a big influence on me growing up. I think that’s part of what drew me to orthopedics, particularly hand surgery, and to a career where I can help people regain function and get back to the things they enjoy,” Dr. Calfee said.
In addition to his work in the operating room and clinic, Dr. Calfee has participated in more than 15 international medical mission trips, primarily traveling to Honduras. During these trips, he has provided orthopedic care, including total hip replacements for patients in underserved areas.
"Those trips have been some of the most meaningful experiences of my career," Dr. Calfee said. "Being able to use the skills I have learned to help someone who otherwise may not have access to that care is incredibly rewarding."
Outside of medicine, Dr. Calfee enjoys flying airplanes, playing golf, reading and cooking. He has been married for more than 33 years and has three children and two dogs.
"I think the community here is what I was looking for, and I’m really excited to be part of it,” Dr. Calfee said. “I look forward to building a team and providing orthopedic care to the people of Sidney and the surrounding region.”
Dr. Calfee will be joined by Dr. James Ingram, who will begin practicing at Sidney Health Center in early November. Together with Adrianne Bryant, PA-C, who will transition to the Orthopedic Clinic beginning October 5, the expanded team will provide orthopedic clinic care, surgical services and coordinated care with imaging and rehabilitation.
